Earlier this year Jack and I went to see Marina and The Diamonds playing live at the O2 Academy on the Glasgow leg of the 2016 Neon Nature tour!
Eccentric Welsh vocalist Marina and her band of exceptionally brilliant musicians ensured there was never a dull moment and entertained the crowd from the moment they appeared on stage.
Cleverly split into three acts, the gig showcased their three album repertoire, visually and musically ensuring fans were treated to the best of 2010’s The Family Jewels, 2012’s Electra Heart and 2015’s Froot.
With a repertoire ranging from rave-ready synth-pop to Lana Del Rey-esque melodrama and at times almost Kate Bush-like vocal nuances, Marina Diamandis exuded the determined confidence of a true pop star showcasing formidable vocals and sharp lyricism, flawlessly keeping the crowd in the palm of her hand throughout the 90 minute show.
Featuring just the right amount of quirkiness, stunning emoji tinged visuals and lighting and what felt like the Greatest Hits of the band, everything about the Neon Nature Tour felt current and refreshing, yet totally familiar, and was a brilliant showcase of just how brightly Marina and her Diamonds can shine!
